Lyrical Observations
Here's a problem that I've been having, illustrated through examples:
In this meta-ethics class today, we were discussing the Buck-Passing Account of value. This is the idea that statements about value can be translated into statements about reasons. Thus, our esteemed lecturer kept using expressions of the form "to say X is to say Y." For example, "To say that dancing is good is to say that there are reasons to bring about dancing." That kind of thing. There was a lot of it, and it ran all through a one hour lecture. Unfortunately, every time he said anything of this form, I started thinking of the Sunset Rubdown lyrics:
To say the war is over is to say you are a widoooooooooooooow!Yeah, that got pretty annoying. I totally had that song in my head... Until the next class.
You're not a widow yet!
The next class was a moral theory class, taught by a pair including Jonathan Way. Now around Jonathan I've had the same problem since a class last semester. Whenever I see him, I start thinking of the Wolf Parade lyrics
Jonathan, Jonathan!Yeah, also not particularly helpful. Maybe a bit distracting. So given these examples, you can see what my problem is. That's right, Spencer Krug is taking over my brain.
Waterfalls are running thin, you know
Here's a holy grail for you to hold
Fire in the hole! Fire in the hole! Fire in the hole!

This is exactly why I don't listen to Spencer Krug in any of his multitude of forms.
Yet another advantage of classical music and prog rock. No parent was ever cruel enough to call their child "duh-duh-duh-DUUHH!"
This gives me an excellent idea...
Wait, I'd have to procreate first. Eh, too much bother.
